Wow! that’s a lot of ‘f’ sounds! We had a fabulous day exploring the fraction of one half - defining it as splitting something into 2 pieces of equal size. We used our new maths books to identify and draw halves, completed half puzzles and the most fun of all was making fairy bread and cutting it in half... then eating it of course!
Following on from our work on UNO’s Garden we looked at some different views of 3D shapes. We discussed how objects look different when you take a ‘bird’s eye’ view. We looked at some maps and discussed how they are a bird’s eye view of countries from a very high flying bird! In our school grounds we found lots of 3D objects That look very different from the side and from above. See the slide show above to see some of the objects we discovered.
We have been enjoying the book Uno’s Garden in Kindy this week. Following reading the first part of the story about Uno moving to the forest we made our own ‘mix and match’ flip book to create some very unusual animals. See some of our creatures in the gallery below. We looked at the differences between a forest and a city.
We loved watching the time lapse movies of big cities growing into huge cities! We made our own model city using recycled materials. We love our city because it has skyscrapers, hotels, pools, houses, roads, train tracks etc. just like a real city. It looks awesome!
Half of the students from KD had fun in our school canteen today with Belle. They made some fantastic looking pastries. I hope they made one for me! The other half of the students will get their turn next week. Thanks, Belle.
KW's scheduled Friday group was fortunate to have a cooking session with Belle on Friday. We learned about puff pastry (did you know it has up to 28 layers in it?!), cut slits into our square of puff pastry, folded the corners, then turned the corners under and pinched them. This made our flower. We then added a frozen raspberry to the middle and viola - a flower! Belle cooked our pastry flowers in the oven and sprinkled them with icing sugar.... We enjoyed eating one at school and we hope you enjoyed the one sent home! |
