We were ever so fortunate to untie some chicks to life through an incubator in. Our classroom. What a treat it was to watch them hatch right before our very eyes! We then kept them for a few weeks before they headed home to Reuben’s house to stretch out in the larger pen. We will see some of them next year in our school chicken pen. Thank you to Courtney, Reubens’s Mum for this very special experience. Our challenge today was to make a device to disperse seeds after learning all about the different ways seeds can be spread - by land, on animals and humans, air, and sea. What a wonderful way to start NAIDOC week by sharing in some Aboriginal cultural dance with Max (Zariah's Dad) and Michael. They started by putting some ochre on our faces where the markings helped to open our minds and eyes, and it is also a natural sunscreen. They showed us some ochre and how they mixed it with water to be able to put it on our bodies. Max talked to us about each dance before he and Michael performed them. There was a dance about a lyrebird, Gulaga, a shark, an emu and a kangaroo. We then joined them in some dancing, showing our representations of different animals. We were so proud of all of the children, who remembered what they had learned about Gulaga and shared their knowledge with Max and Mike. All of the children were very respectful and thoroughly enjoyed this special opportunity. Please enjoy the slideshow of photos below and the videos. We had another awesome bush play last week! The children had a great time exploring, gathering, building and role playing in their natural environment - oh and of course, getting dirty! |
